Hello. My name is Jasa Santos and I was a resident in DTR’s first cohort! I am currently a first grade teacher at Gust Elementary. This is my second year teaching and I absolutely love it.
I grew up in Arlee, Montana, which is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation in the western part of the state. I’m a member of the Salish tribe. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Montana—Missoula. I moved to Denver from Wyoming, where I was working as an education reporter. My fiancé actually found Denver Teacher Residency online and encouraged me to apply since he knew how much I wanted to teach. I owe him so much! This program has completely changed my life.
This year I looped with my class, meaning I taught the same group of kiddos as kindergarteners. We’re a little bit like the circus in Room 120…everything seems to be in a controlled state of chaos! We work hard, respect everyone’s learning, and have a lot of fun too. Looping is a very unique situation. I am grateful to have the opportunity to experience it.
I hope that my blog gives you some insight into what it’s like to manage a room full of little people. I truly believe my kiddos are incredible!
