10/19/2011 : Residents take on lead teaching

Denver Teacher Residents were “lead teachers” in their respective classrooms for the first time this past week. Lead teaching is when the resident takes responsibility for all planning, instruction, classroom management, and teaching duties in their respective classroom. This lead teaching period was three full school days and the first of three lead teaching periods throughout their residency year.

Lead teaching provides each resident with the unique opportunity to experience the full responsibility of teaching without their mentor teacher in the classroom. This helps them identify the things that are working, as well as areas for them to focus on in their coursework and practicum in the coming months.
