APPLICATION

How do I apply?

  • Complete the online application on this website. You can either login if you already have an account or create your account to get started now. Only online applications are accepted.
Is there a separate application to the University of Denver's, Morgridge College of Education?
  • All applicants will first complete and submit a Phase One Denver Teacher Residency (DTR) application. After the initial screening and participation in Demonstration Day, qualified screened applicants will be notified and asked to complete and submit a Phase Two application to the University of Denver (DU). A link to the DU application will be provided at that time.
What are the application components?

What is the 2011-2012 application process?
  • All applicants must submit an online Phase One application along with all accompanying materials by the application deadline of February, 14 2011.
  • Applicants who proceed through the first screening will be invited to participate in one of three available Demonstration Day dates.
  • After all three Demonstration Days have been completed, DTR will notify those candidates who have been recommended to submit a Phase Two DU application.
  • Those candidates who receive a recommendation from DTR will submit a Phase Two DU application.
  • Final decisions of admission or wait list will be communicated to applicants in mid-May.
In the DTR application, what is the section titled "Teaching Preference" used for?
  • The section titled "Teaching Preference" is used for gauging applicants' interests as future DPS teachers.
  • The preference(s) selected by candidates in this section of the application will determine some future coursework as program participants work towards their graduate degree.
  • All DTR program participants will be eligible to take additional PLACE exams in order to earn an endorsement for Special Education Generalist and Linguistically Diverse Education.
What tests are required to apply?
  • Elementary Education applicants must take either the PLACE (elementary education #01) or PRAXIS II (elementary education content knowledge #0014)
  • Secondary Mathematics applicants must take the PLACE (mathematics #04) or PRAXIS II (mathematics #0061) OR have 24 undergraduate credit hours in mathematics content. Click here for more details on mathematics content.
  • Secondary Science applicants must take the PLACE (science #05) or PRAXIS II (general science #0435) OR have 24 undergraduate credit hours in science content. Click here for more details on science content.
Do I need to take the GRE or the MAT?
  • No, DTR applicants are not required to take the GRE or the MAT.
Can I reapply if I do not get admitted?
  • Yes, applicants can reapply for the next academic year.
What steps will be required if I get accepted to the program?
  • Once accepted into the program all Residents are required to apply to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) for a Three-Year Substitute Authorization. In order to receive this authorization, Residents will need to submit fingerprints and a set of transcripts specifically for the CDE. This step is only required for those who have been accepted to the program.
