PLACE/PRAXIS II
What is the difference between the PLACE and the PRAXIS II?
- The PLACE is the Colorado certification test for educators, and the PRAXIS II is a nationally recognized certification test for educators.
- PLACE Exam: The PLACE tests are criterion referenced and objective based. Criterion-referenced tests are designed to measure a candidate's knowledge in relation to an established standard of performance (a criterion) rather than in comparison to the performance of other candidates. The tests are designed to identify those candidates who have the level of knowledge and skills judged important for educators in Colorado schools. For testing dates and registration for the PLACE exam, please go to www.place.nesinc.com
- PRAXIS II Exam: These subject assessments measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach. Individuals entering the teaching profession take these tests as part of the teacher licensing and certification process required by many states. For test dates and registration for the PRAXIS II exam, go to www.ets.org/praxis or call 800.772.9476.
Should I take the PLACE or the PRAXIS II?
- DTR applicants may choose to take either the PLACE or the PRAXIS II. Scores from the PLACE are applicable in earning a teaching certificate exclusively in the state of Colorado, and scores from the PRAXIS II can be used to earn a teaching certificate in any state. DTR does not prefer one exam over another.
