Troy Hubbell – Greenwood Elementary, Special Ed
I was born in Denver, and I went to the University of Redlands. I have been a special education paraprofessional for two years. I went to school in the Denver area for most of elementary school and all of high school and middle school. I graduated from the University of Redlands in 2008. After college I heard that Corey Elementary was looking for a one-on-one paraprofessional. The position was the most challenging I have ever had. It was also the most fulfilling. Since that job I have known that I wanted to be a teacher in order to teach children that are hard to teach. The Denver Teacher Residency shares that goal and provides the training to do it well. That is why I choose the Denver Teacher Residency. I've been impressed with the quality of the teachers in DTR and the other residents. We bonded quickly. The theory we have learned so far has changed the way I think about the classroom. In the coming year, I'm looking forward to working with kids. One of the biggest challenges facing urban teachers today is meeting the needs of an incredibly diverse population. The sheer quality of diverse practices that you need to pull together for a diverse classroom has been surprising.
